Trump Cancels Planned Military Strikes On Iran, Says Talks Have Reached ‘Highest Level’

Trump claimed that negotiations had reached the highest levels of the Iranian leadership and that a preliminary agreement was close to being finalised.

Amomentary calm emerged between the United States and Iran after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he had cancelled planned military strikes against Iran.

However, Iranian officials swiftly rejected the claim, insisting that no agreement or memorandum of understanding had been approved by Tehran.

In a post on his Truth Social platform on Thursday evening, Trump said he had ordered the cancellation of scheduled military action against Iran after what he described as significant progress in negotiations involving multiple regional and international stakeholders.

“Based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved, I have, as President of the United States of America, cancelled the scheduled strikes and bombings against Iran this evening,” Trump wrote.

He further claimed that both the United States and Iran had agreed on the framework and details of an initial memorandum of understanding and that an official announcement of the agreement would be made soon.

According to Trump, the discussions involved not only Washington and Tehran but also key regional players including Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan and Egypt.

“Discussions and final points have been, in both concept and great detail, approved by all parties involved,” Trump stated.

Despite announcing the suspension of military action, the U.S. president stressed that the naval blockade imposed around Iran would remain in force until the proposed agreement was formally concluded.

“The Naval Blockade will remain in full force and effect until this transaction is finalised,” he added.

Trump’s announcement came amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran following days of military exchanges, missile attacks and threats of further retaliation across the Middle East.

However, only hours after Trump’s declaration, Iran moved to publicly distance itself from the U.S. president’s claims.

Iranian state media reported that no document had been approved by Tehran and that there was currently no agreed text for any memorandum of understanding with Washington.

According to an unnamed source described as being close to Iran’s negotiating team, the Islamic Republic had not endorsed any agreement and had not authorized any draft document.

Fars News Agency quoted the source as saying that reports suggesting Iran had approved a framework agreement with the United States were inaccurate.

The denial appeared to directly contradict Trump’s assertion that negotiations had been finalized in both concept and detail.

The conflicting statements have further clouded the status of diplomatic efforts aimed at ending one of the most dangerous confrontations between the two countries in recent years.
