Nigerian Paramedic Jailed Up To 12 Years For Sexually Assaulting Teen Patient In Ambulance
A former Fort Mill paramedic, Akingbiwaju Opadele, has been convicted of sexually assaulting a teenage patient while she was being transported to a hospital during a medical emergency in North Carolina, US.
He was sentenced to 70 to 144 months in prison and ordered to register as a sex offender for 30 years.

A former paramedic, Akingbiwaju Opadele, has been sentenced to up to 12 years in prison after a Mecklenburg County jury found him guilty of sexually assaulting a teenage patient inside an ambulance in North Carolina, United States.
Opadele, 34, was convicted of sexual contact under the pretext of medical treatment after a trial that ended in September 2026. Judge Louis Trosch Jr. sentenced him to 70 to 144 months in prison and ordered him to register as a sex offender for 30 years.
The incident happened on January 17, 2023, after the 17-year-old girl suffered a seizure at school and was transported by Fort Mill Emergency Medical Services to Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital.
According to court reports, Opadele was the paramedic assigned to treat the girl during the ambulance journey. She later reported the assault to hospital staff immediately after arriving and asked that Opadele leave her room. Hospital witnesses and DNA evidence were presented during the trial.
Opadele was arrested in March 2023 after investigators reviewed the victim’s account, physical evidence and other witness statements. He had earlier been released from jail 37 minutes after his arrest on a $15,000 unsecured bond.
At the time of his arrest, authorities said Opadele was the only EMT in the back of the ambulance with the teenager while another paramedic was driving. He was subsequently placed on administrative leave and was no longer active with Fort Mill EMS.
Note: I could verify the conviction and sentence from current US reports, but I could not independently verify his Nigerian nationality from the available reliable sources, so the article refers to him as a former paramedic rather than a “Nigerian paramedic.”Nigerian news subscription
