Kidnappers Abduct Two Visually Impaired Persons, Demand ₦50 Million Ransom
Another disturbing kidnapping incident has been reported in Plateau State after suspected kidnappers abducted two visually impaired persons travelling along Riyom Local Government Area.

The victims, a man and a woman, were reportedly among nine passengers travelling in a vehicle from Jos to attend a training programme in Benue State.
According to reports, the passengers had initially travelled for the programme but received information that the event had been postponed. They were therefore returning to Jos when they encountered the suspected kidnappers.
The incident reportedly occurred around 8 p.m. on Monday night.
Seven of the passengers reportedly managed to escape during the attack, while the two visually impaired individuals were taken away by the suspected abductors.
The Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities in Plateau State, Shindol Aaron, confirmed the incident on Tuesday.
He explained that the victims were among those selected to participate in the training programme before the unexpected development occurred.
₦50 Million Ransom Demand
The situation has become even more disturbing following reports that the kidnappers have demanded ₦50 million for the release of the two victims.
Another member of the disability association, Ishaya Ayuba Danjatau, reportedly confirmed that the abductors had contacted someone and communicated their ransom demand.
The association’s chairman disclosed that the incident had already been reported to security agencies and that efforts were ongoing to secure the victims’ freedom.
However, as of the time of reporting, there had been no official confirmation from the Plateau State Police Command regarding the incident.
Growing Concerns Over Insecurity
This latest incident has once again raised concerns about the safety of Nigerians travelling along roads in parts of the country.
Kidnapping has continued to create fear among commuters, particularly those travelling through communities where security challenges have been reported.
What makes this particular incident especially heartbreaking is the vulnerability of the victims.
Two people who were travelling for an educational opportunity have reportedly found themselves in the hands of kidnappers.
Their families and loved ones are now faced with the painful uncertainty of waiting for their safe return.
The reported ₦50 million ransom demand also raises questions about the financial burden placed on families and communities whenever kidnapping occurs.
A Call for Urgent Intervention
The incident deserves urgent attention from security agencies and relevant authorities.
The immediate priority should be ensuring that the two victims are rescued safely and reunited with their families.
There is also a need for stronger security measures along vulnerable routes, improved intelligence gathering and quicker responses to reports of criminal activities.
People with disabilities deserve the same freedom, safety and opportunities as every other Nigerian. Their participation in training programmes, education and other activities should never become a journey filled with fear.
As efforts continue to secure their release, Nigerians are hoping that the two victims will return home safely.
This is another reminder that insecurity affects everyone, regardless of age, background or physical ability. Every Nigerian deserves to travel without fear of being kidnapped.
