Horror on Abuja-Lokoja Highway: Gas Truck Explodes at Army Checkpoint, Six Burnt Alive
At least six people have lost their lives after a gas-laden truck exploded Tuesday night at an Army checkpoint along the Abuja-Lokoja Federal Highway in Kogi State.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred within the Chikara Division, triggering a massive fire that quickly spread to nearby vehicles.
Police officers, personnel of the Motor Traffic Division, and officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were immediately deployed to the scene to manage the emergency.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the truck, which was transporting gas cylinders, exploded as it approached the checkpoint. The blast engulfed three other trucks in flames.
“The driver of the gas truck and his motor boy were burnt to de@th. The fire also engulfed three other trucks, k!lling their drivers and motor boys. In all, six people lost their lives in the incident,” Makama disclosed.
The affected trucks, bearing registration numbers from Jigawa State, Lagos State, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), were completely destroyed in the inferno.
The bodies of the victims were evacuated to the General Hospital in Abaji, while authorities cleared the burnt vehicles from the highway to restore the free flow of traffic.
