Court Sentences Man to Death by Hanging for Killing Wife

The Yobe State High Court 1, sitting in Damaturu, has sentenced a 45-year-old man, Abubakar Musa, popularly known as Daddy, to death by hanging for the killing of his wife, Ammi Mamman, in 2024.

Musa was arrested by the police on January 4, 2024, following the incident at New Bra-Bra Housing Estate in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital. He was subsequently charged with culpable homicide.

Delivering judgment approximately two years after the incident, the presiding judge held that the prosecution had established the essential elements of culpable homicide and proved the case against the defendant beyond reasonable doubt.

The court also rejected the defendant’s plea of not guilty, stating that it was inconsistent with the evidence presented before it.

The conviction followed the prosecution’s presentation of evidence linking Musa to the killing of his wife.

Under the applicable legal procedures, Musa has the right to appeal the judgment within the stipulated period.

The sentence’s implementation will be subject to the applicable legal procedures and the outcome of any appeal filed by the convict.

The judgment marks the conclusion of the trial at the High Court level, although the possibility of an appeal remains open under the law.
