Court Remands popular Lawyer Over Alleged Fraud, Forged Receipts, Failure To Appear
Kano State– A Kano State High Court has ordered the remand of a lawyer, Barrister Dalhatu Shehu Usman, at the Kurmawa Correctional Centre over allegations of fraud, forgery of receipts and failure to appear in court.

The court, presided over by Justice Zuwaira Yusuf, issued the order following Usman’s arraignment by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission.
The judge directed that the lawyer be kept at the correctional facility until Friday, November 6, 2026, when the matter is expected to come up for further proceedings.
During the court sitting, defence counsel, Barrister A.A. Sani, challenged the competence of the lawyers prosecuting the case, questioning their legal authority to handle the matter.
Sani raised a preliminary objection, arguing that the prosecution team lacked the requisite authority to prosecute the case before the court.
The defence lawyer also urged the court to order that his client be remanded at the Kurmawa Correctional Centre rather than returned to the custody of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, where he had reportedly spent more than 10 days pursuant to an earlier court order.
Following the arguments, Justice Yusuf adjourned the case until Friday, November 6, 2026, for a ruling on the preliminary objection challenging the authority of the prosecution team.
The judge further ordered that Usman remain at the Kurmawa Correctional Centre pending the next hearing.
