6 Killed as Vigilantes Clash With Bandits in Katsina

At least 10 people were reportedly killed following a fierce gun battle between local vigilantes and heavily armed bandits in Dansarai community, Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State.

According to reports, the casualties comprised six suspected bandits and four residents, while several others reportedly sustained injuries.

The confrontation began when a large group of bandits, travelling in a convoy of about 59 motorcycles, allegedly attempted to pass through Dansarai on their way to another community in neighbouring Kano State.

Rather than retreat, residents, led by vigilante groups, reportedly confronted the armed men, resulting in an intense exchange of gunfire.

Following the clash, community members reportedly recovered more than 20 motorcycles allegedly abandoned by the fleeing bandits and handed them over to military personnel stationed in the area.

The incident highlights the growing security challenges facing communities along the Katsina–Kano border, as residents increasingly rely on local vigilantes to respond to armed attacks.
