Young Sales Girl Dies in Abia After Attempting Abortion

A heartbreaking incident has shaken Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, following the death of Miss Christiana Innocent. She reportedly died from complications related to a self-induced abortion. Investigations reveal that she became pregnant by a young man who abandoned her, leaving her in a state of emotional distress.

Christiana’s biological mother lives in Lokpanta, while her children are at Agbama II, Olokoro, in Umuahia South Local Government Area. Upon learning of her pregnancy, she turned to her adoptive mother, who is also her aunt and a nurse in Isuikwuato. The nurse allegedly provided her with a substance to terminate the pregnancy and assured her that it was safe. However, Christiana took more of the substance than advised, resulting in severe complications.

A voice note from her phone shows that she fainted while trying to go to the restroom but regained consciousness afterward. The next morning, she called her older brother for help. Unfortunately, he could not reach her immediately due to financial issues. When he finally arrived at her workplace — UK Bar and Lounge, part of the Sacramento Event Centre owned by Prince Okereke — he found her in a tragic state. It’s important to note that Christiana was not an employee of the Sacramento Event Centre but worked at the bar located within it.

Preliminary findings suggest the substance given to her by her aunt, the nurse, likely contributed to her death. Now, the family and close friends are urging the authorities to allow for her burial as investigations continue.
