Troops Drive Out Bandits in Taraba, Recover Arms and Motorcycles
Soldiers from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, serving within Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have cleared several bandit hideouts in Takum and Ussa local government areas of Taraba State.
In a statement released to journalists on Monday by Lt. Umar Muhammad, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the Brigade, he explained that this action is part of the ongoing Operation Lafiya Nakowa.
He stated that the operation was based on reliable intelligence regarding bandit activities in Tarhembe, Tornyi, TY Farm, Kando in Takum, and locations within Ussa LGA where farmland had been damaged.
He stated that on October 5, troops initiated simultaneous clearance operations in the affected regions.
“Team A moved into Tarhembe and Tornyi, where they encountered bandits. The troops’ superior firepower compelled the criminals to escape into the forest. In their follow-up operations, they retrieved four rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, an AK-47 magazine, and a motorcycle,” according to the statement.
“Team B conducted operations in Lissam, Ussa LGA, successfully clearing several suspected bandit camps without encountering any resistance,” it added.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, the Commander of the 6th Brigade, praised the troops for their resilience and professionalism.
He encouraged residents to keep supplying prompt and reliable information to assist security agencies in restoring peace within the state.
He also mentioned that the operations had interrupted criminal activities, restricted bandits’ freedom of action, and reassured local communities about the Nigerian Army’s dedication to protecting lives and property.
