“The Wrong Person Has Been Imprisoned” – Simon Ekpa Expresses Confidence His Conviction Will Be Overturned
Self-acclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE), Simon Ekpa, has expressed confidence that his conviction by a Finnish court will eventually be overturned.
Ekpa was convicted last year on terrorism-related offences linked to violence and killings in Nigeria’s South-East. On September 1, 2025, a Finnish district court sentenced him to six years in prison.
Speaking to supporters during his appeal hearing on Thursday, August 6, Ekpa maintained his innocence, insisting that the wrong person had been imprisoned and that the truth would soon emerge.
He said:
“I’m very confident that the truth is going to come out. They will know that the wrong person has been imprisoned.”
His remarks have since sparked fresh reactions online as many await the outcome of the appeal proceedings. The appeal process is expected to determine whether the original judgment will be upheld, modified, or overturned.
