According to a report by The Times Of Israel on Friday August 14, 2026, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has described Britain as an “Islamic republic” during an extended podcast interview with Army Radio.

Netanyahu made the remark while discussing Winston Churchill’s son, Randolph Churchill, and grandson, Winston Spencer Churchill. Both men, like the former British prime minister, worked as journalists and covered events involving Israel.

According to Netanyahu, the two journalists visited Israel during the Six-Day War and reported on the conflict in a manner favorable to the country.

“came here and covered the Six Day War in a very positive way for us,” Netanyahu said, referring to Randolph Churchill and Winston Spencer Churchill.

He then contrasted their reporting with what he described as Britain’s current political and social climate.

“Try to find that now in Britain, which you could call the Islamic republic of Britain,” Netanyahu said with a chuckle.

During the interview, the Israeli prime minister was also asked whether the situation extended beyond Britain, with the interviewer questioning “if all of Europe isn’t already like that, no?”

Netanyahu responded “yes,” apparently referring to the presence of Muslim communities across European countries as well as what he views as increasingly critical positions taken by several European governments toward Israel in recent years.

He went on to make another reference to Britain’s nuclear status while discussing Iran’s nuclear program.

“The first nuclear Islamic republic will be the Islamic republic of Britain,” Netanyahu further joked. “We’re making sure there won’t be another one in Iran.”

The comments came as Netanyahu continued to address Israel’s relations with European countries and concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
