Crypto Giant Binance Reports $6.3Billion Hack, Says $3Billion In Stolen Assets Frozen

According to Binance, the compromised device allegedly enabled an attacker to gain access to a service container and submit unauthorised withdrawal transactions.

Cryptocurrency exchange Binance has disclosed a security incident estimated to have caused losses of approximately $6.3 billion, saying it has so far worked with blockchain partners to freeze about $3 billion in affected assets.

In a security update published on Friday, October 30, 2026, the cryptocurrency platform said its initial investigation suggested that the breach might have originated from a compromised laptop belonging to a DevOps engineer.

According to Binance, the compromised device allegedly enabled an attacker to gain access to a service container and submit unauthorised withdrawal transactions.

The company, however, said it had found no evidence that any wallet private keys were leaked.

“Binance’s initial investigation suggests that the security incident may involve a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop, which allowed an attacker to gain access to a service container and submit unauthorized withdrawal transactions,” the company stated.

It added that a detailed technical post-mortem would be released after the investigation is completed and the facts fully verified.

Binance said it was working with blockchain partners to freeze the affected assets, with approximately $3 billion already frozen on-chain.

The exchange also assured customers that they would not bear the financial consequences of the incident, pledging to cover all losses through its Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU) and company funds.

“Binance will cover all losses from the SAFU fund and the company’s funds. User funds are safe,” the statement said.

The company said it would also publish an updated Proof of Reserves after completing its remediation efforts.

As part of its immediate response, Binance temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals while conducting security checks.

It also revoked the authorisation of the affected address and engaged law enforcement agencies and blockchain intelligence partners to trace and recover the funds.

The exchange said its teams were working continuously to resolve the incident and identify those responsible.

“Our teams are working around the clock to resolve this issue safely and thoroughly,” it stated.

“We are working closely with our law enforcement partners to confirm the identity of these criminals and bring them to justice.”

Binance urged users to rely exclusively on its official communication channels for further updates and directed customers with concerns to its support team.

The company did not disclose the identity of the suspected attackers or provide a timeline for restoring normal deposit and withdrawal services.
