Terrorists Invade Kano Community, Kill Several, Steal Livestock

Residents of Shanono Local Government Area in Kano State have been thrown into panic following a deadly invasion by armed terrorists who stormed the area on Thursday night.

Reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) indicate that the assailants, numbering about 150 and riding on 50 motorcycles, each carrying three persons, launched coordinated attacks on several communities in the area.

The attackers, believed to have crossed into Kano from neighbouring Katsina State, reportedly killed several people and carted away livestock, farm produce, and equipment. The assault has left residents in fear as many fled their homes for safety.

Communities along the Katsina–Kano border, including Faruruwa, Kuraku, Goron-Dutse, Tsaure, and Yan-Shado, have come under repeated attacks in recent weeks, with villagers lamenting the absence of adequate security presence.

According to eyewitnesses, the terrorists often enter through bush paths, looting properties and abducting residents without much resistance. Local leaders say the rising wave of insecurity has crippled farming and trading activities in the region.

Speaking to journalists, Yahaya Bagobiri, Chairman of the Faruruwa and Neighbourhood Security Committee, appealed to authorities to intervene urgently, noting that the few security personnel deployed to the area are overwhelmed.

“We have been facing serious security challenges since 2022. Bandits from Katsina and neighbouring states invade our communities almost daily. That is why we are calling on the government to come to our aid,” Bagobiri said.

Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement as residents continue to live in fear of further attacks.
