Super Falcons’ Osinachi Ohale Retires From International Football After 16 Years
Osinachi Ohale has brought an end to her international football career after 16 years of representing the Super Falcons, according to Nigerian sports journalist Victor Ademola.
Ademola announced Ohale’s retirement in a post on X, paying tribute to the veteran defender and highlighting her lengthy service to the Nigerian women’s national team.
“After 16 years, four FIFA Women’s World Cups, seven WAFCON appearances and five African titles, Osinachi Ohale has called time on her international career. Thank you for your service to Nigeria, Osinachi. Forever a Super Falcon,” Ademola wrote.
Ohale made her senior international debut for Nigeria in 2010 and went on to establish herself as one of the most experienced defenders in the history of the Super Falcons.
Her international career spanned four FIFA Women’s World Cup appearances, with her featuring at the 2011, 2015, 2019 and 2023 editions. She was also part of Nigeria’s WAFCON-winning squads in 2010, 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2024, giving her five continental titles.
Ohale was a key member of the Super Falcons’ squad at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. She scored Nigeria’s second goal in their 3-2 victory over co-hosts Australia and was named Player of the Match for her performance.
At the 2024 WAFCON, played in Morocco in July 2025, Ohale again played a central role as Nigeria defeated the hosts 3-2 in the final to reclaim the African title. Her goal in the final was part of Nigeria’s comeback from two goals down.
Ohale was subsequently included in Nigeria’s squad for the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco, taking her tournament appearances to seven. She finished her international career with 87 appearances for the Super Falcons, according to available squad records.
Her retirement marks the end of a career that saw her represent Nigeria across more than a decade and a half while collecting five WAFCON titles and appearing at four World Cups.
