Six Killed, Six Injured in Fatal Crash on Lapai-Bida Road

Crash comes two days after a trailer reportedly killed IBBU Lapai graduate Hassan Soje in the area.

Six people have been killed and six others injured in a fatal road crash at Kusogbogi along the Lapai-Bida Road, two days after another trailer-related crash reportedly claimed the life of an Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai graduate, Hassan Soje.

The latest crash occurred at about 10:39 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026, involving a Scania truck and a Toyota Hiace bus.

According to the incident report, 16 people were involved in the crash. Six people — five males and one female — were killed, while six others sustained injuries.

Wrongful overtaking was identified as the probable cause of the latest crash, while the road was reported to be paved and dry at the time of the incident.

The injured victims were taken to General Hospital, Lapai, for medical attention, while the bodies of those who died were deposited at the hospital mortuary.

The vehicles involved were a Scania truck, registration number EPE 297 UG, driven by Lateef Olayemi, and a Toyota Hiace bus, registration number GWA 876 XF, driven by Oladosu John.

The latest incident adds to growing concerns over road safety along the Lapai-Bida corridor, following the reported death of Hassan Soje in another trailer-related crash earlier in the week.
