“She Told My Son I Was Dead” – Nigerian Man Reunites With Child After 17 Years, Wins Custody in Court
A Nigerian man has gone viral after sharing how he reunited with his son after 17 years, alleging that the child’s mother falsely told the boy his father was d3ad and denied him access throughout his childhood.
According to the man, although his son eventually knew he was his biological father, the teenager could only visit him secretly because his mother prevented them from having a relationship.
Recounting his experience in Yoruba, he said:
“For 17 years, my son’s mother denied her son his father. She told him I had passed away. When he clocked 10 years, she called the anti-k!dnapping squad on me, claiming I kidnapped our son. So I told them to take him because only the mother knows the father of her child.”
He further claimed that when the boy turned 15, he visited him again, prompting him to report the matter to the police.
According to the man, the situation eventually ended up in court after his son, at age 17, insisted on living with him.
“We took ourselves to court. All the evidence proved I was his father, and they granted me custody after 17 years. The court also told me to change his surname to mine. They even sent us for a DNA test because she still didn’t want me to have access to him,” he added.
He also alleged that the child’s mother demanded ₦5 million as compensation for raising the boy alone, but said the court declined the request.
Concluding his story, the man advised single mothers not to deliberately prevent children from having a relationship with their fathers, arguing that no amount of money can replace a father’s presence in a child’s life.
