Radio Hunter Drags Musician Over Unprofessional Conduct at Wedding Reception
Renowned broadcaster, Olugbenga Odeyemi, popularly known as The Radio Hunter, has publicly criticized a juju musician, Gbenga Melody Junior, over what he described as “unprofessional conduct” during a wedding reception in Ile-Ife.
Odeyemi took to his official Facebook page to narrate his experience, alleging that the musician disrupted the flow of the event and disregarded the role of the Master of Ceremonies (MC).
“I once worked with a guy in Ile-Ife named Gbenga Melody Jnr. During a wedding event, right there on the mic, he told me to my face that he would decide how the program would go, not the MC,” the broadcaster wrote.
According to him, the incident ruined the smooth running of the ceremony.
“A wedding party for that matter! He completely spoilt the whole flow of the event. He didn’t even allow us to cut the cake. All he kept doing was singing praises of people in the hall. At the end of the day, the only things we managed to do was the opening prayer and the entrance of the couple, nothing more,” Odeyemi lamented.
In his post, the broadcaster said he tried to appeal to the musician backstage but was met with an even more shocking response.
“I calmly went to him and whispered that we still had a lot to cover in the order of events. Guess what he told me? ‘Go and bring your own instruments and set up your own stage.’”
Odeyemi, who stated that he had already received full payment for his service, said he chose not to engage further.
Odeyemi concluded by contrasting his experience with other musicians, praising those who respect the roles of MCs during events.
“I’ve worked with many mature and professional musicians, and they always allow the MC to handle the program with ifọkànbalẹ̀ (peace of mind). But that experience with Gbenga Melody Jnr? Oh no.”
As of the time of this report, the musician, Gbenga Melody Junior, has yet to respond to the broadcaster’s allegations.
