Presidency Reacts To Alleged Viral Video Of Ex-Power Minister Adelabu Asking Nigerians To Reject APC

The Presidency has reacted to a viral video purportedly showing former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, asking Nigerians to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissing the report as false.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, debunked the claim in a post on social media, describing the circulating video as fake news. He also shared a statement from Adelabu’s media office explaining the context of the recording.

In the statement, titled “Adelabu Never Asked Nigerians To Reject APC — Viral Report Is False, Malicious and Mischievous,” the former minister’s media office said the video was an excerpt from an interview he granted in 2022, when he was the governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Oyo State.

According to the statement, Adelabu was expressing his view at the time that political parties had disappointed Nigerians and that voters should focus on the credibility and character of individual candidates. It maintained that his comments were never a call to reject the APC or oppose Tinubu’s presidency
