Makinde Rejects Political Godfather Tag, Explains Why He Chose Adekanmbi Over Other Aspirants
According to report by Nigerian Tribune on Sunday, October 11, 2026, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has explained his decision to endorse the Allied People’s Movement (APM) governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, as his preferred successor, saying the candidate possesses the competence, intellect, experience and youthful energy required to govern the state.
Makinde said his support for Adekanmbi was based primarily on his professional accomplishments and capacity, rather than political considerations.
He recalled that he had never occupied a political or public office before becoming governor, noting that his professional career prepared him for the responsibilities of leadership.
The governor described Adekanmbi as a first-class graduate, chartered accountant and fellow of his professional body, arguing that leadership should be entrusted to people who have demonstrated competence and earned recognition through hard work.
