Politicians Have Your Religious Leaders On Payroll – Aisha Yesufu Tells Nigerians

Human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, has claimed that Nigerian politicians have some religious leaders on their payroll.

Our heritage Reporter online reports that Yesufu made this claim in a post on her verified X handle on Monday.

She was reacting to the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, leading a prayer session.

“Nigerians want to pray their way to good governance! The same prayers that the politicians giving you bad governance are out-praying you on!

“They even have your religious rulers on their payroll. You bring sadaqah and tithes in thousands they bring theirs in billions,” she said.

In another development, our heritage Reporter reports that the Minister of Works, David Umahi, has insisted that he does not need to be a presidential candidate to debate the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, declaring that “to be a presidential candidate is not an achievement.”

Umahi made the remarks in a video shared on Sunday by Imran Muhammad, days after Obi rejected the minister’s invitation to a public debate on their respective records as former governors.

Responding to Obi’s position that only presidential candidates should engage in presidential debates, Umahi said his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election made him part of the 2027 ticket.

“I’ve told him that I’m on the ballot,” the minister said.

“You know, when President Bola Tinubu is on the ballot, I’m on the ballot. Because I don’t want this project to stop. I want it to be completed. So I want all of us together to win with President Bola Tinubu.”
