Pantami Denies Declaring Politics Haram, Defends Role in APC

Former Minister of Communications, Isa Pantami, has refuted claims that he once described politics as haram (forbidden), insisting that he never made such a statement. Speaking during an interview with BBC Hausa, Pantami said his involvement in politics was driven by a desire to promote good governance in Nigeria.

He explained that he has been a registered member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) since 2019, noting that Nigeria’s constitution requires ministers to belong to a political party. According to him, his participation in government was consistent with both legal requirements and his commitment to national development.

Pantami, who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari, also recently urged Northern elites to prioritise strategic investment in the media sector rather than focusing solely on building mosques. He warned that years of underinvestment in communication have created what he termed a dangerous deficit in information management.
