Fresh allegations have emerged suggesting that certain opposition figures are engaging in foreign lobbying efforts aimed at discrediting key Northern allies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to the National President of the Emerging Leaders Forum of Nigeria, ELFON, Comrade Godstime Samuel, opposition elements have reportedly lobbied a UK-based lawmaker, Kambiler Daniels, to launch attacks against prominent Northern political figures, including Bello Matawalle and three other influential supporters of the administration.
The alleged objective is to weaken the growing momentum of the Renewed Hope political movement in Nigeria’s North-West region.
Speaking to journalists at the National Press Conference held at Gaya Resorts Abuja, Godstime described the alleged move as a desperate and unpatriotic strategy designed to tarnish the image of key political actors who have remained steadfast in their support for the current administration.
Matawalle, a former governor and a significant power broker in the NorthWest, is widely regarded as one of the pillars of Tinubu’s political strength in the region. Any attempt to remove or discredit him could disrupt the balance of influence in Northern politics.
Godstime further revealed that since the appointment of Gen.CG Musa as Minister of Defence along side the service chiefs, the security situation seem to have gotten worse with clear failure on intelligence gathering that could enable swift operational drive.
The Press conference which brought together leaders of various ethnic groups across Nigeria to address what they describe as the increasing desperation of some political actors and the perceived internal security irregularities, saw the National Leader of the Emerging Leaders Forum calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to call the Minister of Defence, Gen.CG Musa rtd, and the service Chiefs to order as security challenges persist.
We are using this conference to publicly state that individuals involved in lobbying foreign entities to interfere in Nigeria’s internal political affairs and security should be careful not to jeopardise the sovereignty of our Nation in any guise.
The involvement of a foreign lawmaker in domestic political matters raises serious concerns. While lobbying is not uncommon in global politics, using it to target local political opponents through international channels risks setting a troubling precedent. Such actions could undermine Nigeria’s sovereignty and damage the country’s political image on the global stage, Godstime stated.
At the heart of the controversy is the concern that the opposition, facing growing challenges in matching the influence of the ruling camp in the NorthWest, may be resorting to unconventional tactics, but it shouldn’t be such that will cause unrest in the polity, Godstime maintained.
President Tinubu should know that most of the Governors in his party are not trust worthy. He shouldn’t rely on them for a second term victory. The few lieutenants of President Tinubu being attacked in the media are his greatest political field die-hards who are seen as obstacles by rival marshals, he Concluded.
