Ondo Plans CNG Buses, Low-Cost Housing for Workers
The Ondo state government has said that it is considering practical measures to ease transportation and accommodation challenges facing public servants, to enable them perform optimally in their respective duties.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa disclosed this on Wednesday at the 2026 Public Service Week and Carnival, held at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Arcade, in Akure.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Dr Olayide Adelami, said the proposed interventions formed part of the administration’s broader commitment to workers’ welfare and public service reforms.
He noted that transportation challenges could affect punctuality, attendance and productivity, adding that the government would continue to examine practical and sustainable approaches to reducing the burden on workers.
According to him, “The proposal for affordable mass transportation, including the provision of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses for workers, is therefore worthy of careful consideration as part of our broader workers’ welfare and public service reform agenda.
“We also recognise the challenges many public servants face in securing decent and affordable accommodation. Our existing housing loan scheme is one intervention, but we acknowledge that the broader housing deficit requires further attention.
“We will, therefore, continue to explore feasible approaches to expanding access to affordable housing, including the possibility of developing low-cost housing estates for public servants”.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and strengthening the capacity of the state’s public service, stressing that motivated and adequately supported workers were better positioned to deliver effective services to the people.
In his address, the State Head of Service, Chief Segun Odusanya, said the Public Service Carnival provided an avenue for bringing together public servants from different institutions and professional backgrounds “in an atmosphere of friendship, interaction and healthy engagement”
He highlighted the programmes of the current administration that have enabled workers in the state public service to be more efficient.
In their seperate remarks, the state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ademola Olapade and his Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart, Comrade Clement Fatuase, asked for improved welfare for workers while acknowledging the state government’s efforts in different areas.
The highpoint of the event was the presentation of awards to outstanding workers in various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Present at the event were the Secretary to State Government, Dr Taiwo Fasoranti, who extolled Ondo state workers for their diligence; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prince Segun Omojuwa, Commissioners for Physical Planning, Hon. Sunday Olajide; Water Resources, Elder Ayodele Akande; Commerce, Industries and Co-Operatives, Pastor Bola Ademuwagun and Special Adviser to the Governor on Union Matters, Comrade Bola Taiwo, among others.
