Nigerian Police Approve Promotion Of 1,453 Sergeants, Corporals Omitted From Previous Exercise
According to an internal circular obtained by SaharaReporters and dated October 30, 2025, with reference number CE:2300/WEL/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.52/27, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, directed all heads of commands and formations to “ensure that only those qualified benefit from this exercise.”
The authorities of the Nigerian Police Force, through the Department of Finance and Administration (Welfare), has approved the long-awaited promotion of 1,453 police personnel across the country who were omitted from the previous exercise.
According to an internal circular obtained by SaharaReporters and dated October 30, 2025, with reference number CE:2300/WEL/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.52/27, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, directed all heads of commands and formations to “ensure that only those qualified benefit from this exercise.”
The document, signed from the Welfare Department of Force Headquarters, Abuja, was addressed to all Deputy Inspectors-General of Police in charge of Finance & Administration, Operations, Logistics, Force CID, DTD, Research & Planning, DICT, and FID, as well as Assistant Inspectors-General of Police in the zones and specialized formations.
The circular titled “PROMOTION GENERAL SGT-INSPR, CPL-SGT AND PC-CPL” stated clearly:
“The Inspector-General of Police has graciously approved the promotion of those omitted in the recent promotion exercise.”
It further added: “Sergeants and Corporals promoted on or before 31/12/2020, and Constables enlisted on or before 31/12/2019, whose names were omitted are the beneficiaries with effect from 03/04/2024 and 14/07/2025 respectively, as indicated against their names.”
The directive emphasised that “this promotion is strictly based on seniority and merit,” while instructing that heads of commands “convey his hearty congratulations to the beneficiaries.”
Copies of the letter were sent to CP Usman K. Jibrin, Commissioner of Police (Welfare), Department of Finance and Administration, Force Headquarters, Abuja, as well as officers in charge of Force Computer, Records, Establishment, Force Orders, and Kalamazoo.
From the document seen by SaharaReporters, a total of 1,072 officers appeared in the first batch and 381 officers in the second.
Among the newly promoted officers are Sergeants Nura Shehu, Idris Ibrahim, Tasi’u Tunau, and Margret Angale, all serving in Katsina Command, promoted with effect from July 14, 2025.
Others include Sergeant Gani John and Sergeant Abdulmalik Idris of the Force Intelligence Department (STS), Sergeant Deborah Nwakaeze of DICT Abuja, and several personnel from the Police Academy (POLAC), including Sagir Sabo, Abubakar Isah, Ismaila Usman, Bashir Garba, and Hassan Guda.
The circular also listed Sergeant Adeyinka Oluwatosin of 46 PMF Abuja, Sergeant Chilaka Chinedu and Sergeant Nwafor Igwe from Ebonyi Command, Sergeant Henry Kogwuonye of Delta Command, and Sergeant Ajileye Bunmi of Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos, among the beneficiaries.
The second list, containing 381 officers, featured Corporal Mudassir Bilya of INTERPOL Abuja, Corporal Aliyu Abdurrahman of SHP FHQ Abuja, Corporal Aborisade Oluwole, Corporal Victor Maurice, Corporal Daniel Alamai, and Corporal David Samson, all from 2 PMF Lagos, as well as Corporal Philip Tina of PTS Nekede and Corporal Solomon Jacob of POLAC.
Others include Corporal Ibrahim Hassan, Corporal Ugabje Achile, Corporal Ahmed Kabiru, Corporal Haruna Ahmad, and Corporal Yusuf Ali, all attached to the Special Investigation Section (SIS) at Force Headquarters, Abuja.
SaharaReporters in July reported that The Nigeria Police Force initiated a round of promotions for officers in the inspectorate cadre, with a strict deadline of August 29, 2025, for the submission of all eligible candidates’ records.
In a wireless message obtained by SaharaReporters on Wednesday, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) directed all departments, formations, and state commands to compile and submit comprehensive nominal rolls of all Inspectors who were promoted in 2017 and 2018 and subsequently confirmed between 2019 and 2020.
According to the internal directive issued by the Force Secretary in Abuja, the records must be arranged strictly by seniority and include annual performance evaluation reports (APER forms) duly signed for the years 2023, 2024, and 2025.
However, the fresh circular issued last Thursday was meant for the officers that were omitted in the previous promotional exercise.
