Nigerian Mobile Police Officer Arrested Over Armed Robbery, Killing Of Fuel Attendant

Jido Ahmed, a serving Mobile Police officer attached to 61 PMF Kontagora but currently on special duty in Agwara, has been arrested over his alleged involvement in an armed robbery incident that resulted in the death of a fuel attendant in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State.

Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama reported that the arrest followed a robbery incident that occurred on April 15, 2026, at about 2:40 p.m. at Garun Mallam Filling Station, behind BCG Garage in Kontagora.
Sources, while giving details of how the incident unfolded, explained that two armed suspects allegedly arrived at the filling station on a motorcycle, one of them reportedly dressed in a Mobile Police uniform.
According to the sources, the suspects first posed as customers before turning violent.
They stated that two armed suspects, one of whom was reportedly dressed in a mobile police uniform and arrived on a motorcycle, stormed the filling station and demanded money from the attendant after purchasing fuel.
Security sources further described what happened when the victim attempted to resist the attack, noting that the confrontation quickly escalated into violence.
“When the attendant, identified as 20-year-old Jibrin Inuwa of Garun Mallam, resisted, one of the suspects shot him in the chest and fled with an undisclosed sum of money,” the report said.
“The victim was rushed to the General Hospital, Kontagora, where he was confirmed dead, and his body was later released to his family for burial according to Islamic rites.”
Police sources also gave account of how operatives responded after the incident was reported, explaining that a tactical response team was immediately deployed to track the suspects.
Police patrol teams from ‘A’ Division Kontagora, led by the Divisional Police Officer, reportedly trailed the suspects to the Dadinkowa area behind a vigilante office, where they were engaged in a gun duel.
The sources added that the confrontation led to the arrest of one of the suspects after he was subdued during the exchange of fire.
“One of the suspects was eventually overpowered, shot in the leg, disarmed, and arrested,” the report said.
“The suspect was later identified as a serving Mobile Police officer, Insp. Jido Ahmed, attached to 61 PMF Kontagora but currently on special duty in Agwara.
“He was taken to the General Hospital, Kontagora, and later referred to the Police Clinic in Minna for treatment.
“An AK-47 rifle with number 38262 and 12 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered from him.”
According to the report, sources within the command said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect, while investigations into the case continue.
Attempts to obtain an official response from the police authorities were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
