Kanu: I Went to Sokoto Prison Hoping to Console Him but He Was the One Encouraging Me– Anglican Bishop
Dr. Ikechukwu Egbonu, the Anglican Bishop of the Oji River Diocese, shared his recent visit to Nnamdi Kanu at Sokoto Prison, where the leader of IPOB is serving a life sentence.
The bishop, who went to Sokoto for a spiritual event, decided to meet Kanu to offer him comfort; however, the encounter was unexpected.
In an interview with Signature TV, Bishop Egbonu described Kanu as calm and resilient. Contrary to popular belief that Kanu is defeated, the bishop observed that he showed no fear or frustration and remained confident.
Egbonu remarked that Kanu continued to advocate for peace and responsibility, emphasizing that his influence over his supporters is grounded in discipline rather than violence.
He noted that Kanu’s message remained steady and clear, even while incarcerated.
Egbonu stated, “I found him exceptionally strong. I went there to console him, but it was he who ended up encouraging me.
He urged us not to worry and to advise our people to remain peaceful and avoid violence.
He asserted that he is not involved in harming others, that his mission is not to lead our people to violence, and he warned that resorting to violence would risk being labeled as terrorists by the international community.
In fact, it was he who was uplifting me.”
