“Juju Can Help Defeat Terrorists” – Yoruba Monarchs Support Ooni of Ife

Yoruba traditional rulers threw their support behind the Ooni of Ife on Saturday. They agreed to deploy traditional powers, often referred to as juju, in the fight against terrorists and bandits across Yorubaland. The development followed growing insecurity in the region.

Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, addressed monarchs and Ifa devotees at the grand finale of the 2026 Ifa Festival in Ile-Ife. He urged traditional rulers to rise collectively against banditry and kidnapping.

“We must bring together our traditional powers, spiritual heritage, and communal values to chase bandits, kidnappers, and all criminal elements out of Yorubaland and Nigeria as a whole,” Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi stated.

Several Yoruba monarchs echoed the Ooni of Ife’s position. They affirmed that traditional institutions held potent tools to protect their domains. Traditionalists insisted they possessed effective spiritual resources to secure the land and prevent terrorists from taking over.

Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi called for stronger cooperation among kings. He also asked them to partner with security agencies while activating community values. “Enough is enough. Our people deserve to live in peace and move freely without fear,” the Ooni of Ife added.

The endorsement marked a unified stance by Yoruba leaders. They sought to complement conventional security efforts with ancestral methods amid persistent threats of kidnapping and banditry in the southwest.

Leaders emphasized that traditional approaches formed a vital part of their cultural heritage in addressing modern challenges.
