I don’t understand why Nigerians Blamed Jonathan for Chibok, But Blamed Me for Oyo School Kidnapping

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has said Nigerians applied different standards in assigning responsibility for major school kidnappings, noting that former President Goodluck Jonathan was blamed for the 2014 Chibok abduction, while he was held responsible for the recent kidnapping of pupils and teachers in Oyo State.

Speaking after the successful rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area, Makinde argued that although governors do not have constitutional control over the military, police or other security agencies, they are often blamed whenever insecurity occurs in their states.
“When Chibok happened, it was the fault of President Jonathan. They went all over the world and asked Jonathan to bring back the children. But when this happened, no—it is the irresponsibility of the state governor and the state government,” Makinde said.
The governor thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Armed Forces, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their roles in the successful rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers.
He also renewed his call for constitutional reforms, including the establishment of state police, to enable governors play a more effective role in addressing insecurity.
