Gunmen Shoot Dead Three Persons In Lagos While Sleeping At Popular Bus Stop

The three victims, whose identities have yet to be established, were reportedly found lying in pools of blood after the attack.

Three allegedly homeless men have been shot dead by suspected attackers while sleeping at the Post Office Bus Stop on Adeola Odeku Street, Victoria Island, Lagos State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday morning when two men riding power bikes arrived at the bus stop, where about 10 homeless people were sleeping, and attacked them.

The three victims, whose identities have yet to be established, were reportedly found lying in pools of blood after the attack.

A police source told PUNCH that a concerned citizen reported the incident on Sunday morning, prompting an anti-crime patrol team to visit the scene.

“We received a report that three men were found lying lifeless at the Post Office bus stop,” the source said, adding that officers began preliminary enquiries with residents and members of the public.

A source familiar with the incident said a review of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage indicated that two assailants were responsible for the killings.

According to the source, the footage showed the two men arriving on power bikes, each reportedly carrying a white box. They parked across the road before approaching the victims.

The attackers allegedly checked the faces of the people sleeping at the bus stop before speaking to some of them and opening fire.

They were also reported to have inflicted machete wounds on different parts of the victims’ bodies.

One of the victims allegedly pleaded with the attackers to spare his life and resolve any disagreement peacefully. However, he was reportedly shot dead.
The victims were said to be relatively new to the area, having recently joined other homeless people who regularly slept at the bus stop.

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the bodies had been evacuated to the Lagos State Government’s Mainland Hospital in Yaba for autopsy.

Adebisi said preliminary investigations were ongoing to identify the deceased, locate their families and track down the attackers.

The circumstances surrounding the killings, including the motive for the attack and whether the victims were specifically targeted, remain unclear.

The police have yet to announce any arrests in connection with the incident.
