Governor Warns of Bandit Threat During Crossover Services

The Kwara State Government has issued a security advisory warning that bandits are planning to launch attacks during crossover services and New Year celebrations.

According to the government, intelligence reports suggest that criminal elements intend to target government infrastructure and soft locations to avenge recent losses suffered during security operations.

Commissioner for Communication, Bolanle Olukoju, urged residents to remain vigilant, limit non-essential movements, and avoid large gatherings that could expose them to danger.

“Citizens are advised to be vigilant, especially during crossover services and the New Year holiday, while security forces will continue to intensify efforts to protect lives and property,” the statement said.

The government assured residents of increased security presence across the state and encouraged prompt reporting of suspicious movements, especially convoys of motorcycles.

Kwara has faced ongoing security challenges, particularly in rural and forested areas bordering neighbouring states, with frequent incidents of banditry, kidnapping, and violent attacks on farming communities.

In response, the state has intensified collaboration with security agencies, supported local vigilante groups, and stepped up intelligence gathering to protect lives and property.
