Government Declares wednesday as Public Holiday
In a move to honor its rich history and development strides, the Jigawa State Government has declared Wednesday, August 27, 2025, as a work-free day. This declaration is part of the activities lined up to commemorate the 34th anniversary of the creation of the state.

Jigawa State was officially created on August 27, 1991, after it was carved out of the old Kano State. Since its inception, the state has made significant progress in areas such as infrastructure, education, agriculture, and governance.
According to a statement from the state government, the public holiday is meant to allow residents to reflect on the journey so far, celebrate the state’s achievements, and participate in various anniversary events scheduled across the state.
Over the past three decades, Jigawa has evolved into one of Nigeria’s most stable and development-oriented states. Successive administrations have worked towards improving living standards, empowering youth and women, and fostering peace and unity among its diverse communities.
The government has also encouraged citizens to use the occasion to appreciate the contributions of past leaders and renew their commitment to the state’s growth and development.
