Former Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo Gets New Appointment

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has appointed Former Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo to head its Election Observation Mission for the forthcoming presidential election in Côte d’Ivoire.

This was disclosed by ECOWAS Secretariat in a statement made available to Journalists on Sunday in Abuja.

The election itself is scheduled to hold in October, 25th, 2025.

This mission, which will be deployed from Oct. 19 to Oct. 29, aligns with the guidelines outlined in the “ECOWAS Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.”

As the leader of the Mission, Mr Osinbajo is tasked with guiding a group of eminent West Africans” whose duties include:

– Engaging key national stakeholders to support a peaceful and credible electoral process.

– Engaging stakeholders towards fostering cooperation with other international and domestic observer groups.

– Assessing the conduct of the polls.

The statement emphasizes that sending this Observation Mission demonstrates ECOWAS’s unwavering commitment to promoting peace, stability, and credible elections in the sub-region
