Former Health Commissioner Resigns From PDP

Ngwu was a PDP Enugu East Senatorial aspirant in the 2011 general elections.

Aformer Commissioner for Health in Enugu State, Dr Samuel Ngwu, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

 

The United States-based medical practitioner announced his resignation from the PDP, describing the decision as personal. In a letter addressed to the Ward Chairman of Umunevo Ward 2, Enugu North Local Government Area, he expressed gratitude to the party’s stakeholders for the opportunity to serve the state.

 

The letter, also copied to the PDP State Chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunwike, read in part: “This is to notify you of my resignation from the PDP with effect from 28 day of April, 2025.

“I thank the Stakeholders of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for according me the opportunity to serve my state, Enugu and country Nigeria.

 

“Sincerely yours, Dr. Samuel Ngwu.”

 

Ngwu was a PDP Enugu East Senatorial aspirant in the 2011 general elections. In addition to his bid for Senate, he served as a Commissioner from 2015 to 2017 and was a PDP national delegate for Enugu State from 2011 to 2014. Ngwu also ran for a seat in the Federal House of Representatives in the 2014 general elections.

 

Currently, he is the President and CEO of Africa Mission of Hope, a non-governmental organisation that provides free medical treatment to underserved communities.

 

Also, recently, SaharaReporters reported how in a significant political development in Delta State, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, his predecessor Ifeanyi Okowa, and key members of the PDP in the state, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

 

The announcement was made on April 23, 2025, during a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba, attended by senior APC officials.

 

The defection includes the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, the State Party Chairman, all local government chairmen, and other prominent party members.
