FG Raises Alarm Over Nigerians Leaving Without Proper Travel Documents Amid Migration Concerns
The Federal Government has cautioned Nigerians against travelling abroad without proper documentation, warning that such practices are unlawful and dangerous.
In a public notice shared on X on Monday, DCI AS Akinlabi, spokesperson of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), said individuals who attempt to travel without valid documents expose themselves to serious security and legal consequences.
The Service emphasised that anyone travelling internationally must possess a valid passport, visa where necessary, and all required immigration approvals.
It further stated that any effort to avoid official channels or cross through unauthorised routes is a breach of Nigerian law.

The NIS also expressed concern over the rise in deceptive migration arrangements being promoted by criminal groups. These networks, it said, target vulnerable citizens, especially young people, with fake offers of jobs, education opportunities, or improved living conditions overseas.
“These schemes often result in forced labour, human trafficking, and other forms of exploitation,” the service warned, adding that no legitimate travel process bypasses established immigration procedures or official border posts.
The public was encouraged to report any suspicious travel-related activities to the nearest Immigration Service office or other security agencies.

Nigerians were also urged to confirm all overseas travel or recruitment offers through official sources and to avoid dealing with unregistered agents or individuals promoting irregular migration.
