Fear, Anger in Kwara as Residents Protest Rising Insecurity
Residents of Kwara State have taken to the streets in protest, expressing fear and frustration over the worsening security situation across several communities.
The demonstrators, particularly from Kwara South, decried what they described as a surge in killings, kidnappings, and displacement of residents, accusing armed groups of increasingly taking control of local communities.
Protesters said entire villages have been attacked and deserted, with many families forced to flee their homes due to persistent violence and ransom-related abductions. They also raised concerns about the weakening of local vigilante groups, which previously served as a first line of defence.
During the protest, residents called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to urgently intervene by strengthening security operations, empowering local defence structures, and restoring safety across affected areas.
Many participants described the situation as alarming, noting that fear has become a daily reality, with schools shut down and economic activities disrupted in several communities.
The protest reflects growing public outrage over insecurity in parts of Kwara, as citizens continue to demand swift and decisive government action to protect lives and property.
