Emir Sanusi finally breaks silence on Nasir El-rufai’s ordeal, issues controversial warning

The emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi Lamido II has condemned the continued detention of former governor Nasir El-rufai by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), alleging that the law is being used as an instrument of malice.

Speaking to newsmen briefly today, Emir Sanusi who spoke in Hausa criticized what he described as a deliberate effort to keep former governor Nasir El-rufai in detention perpetually through legal technicalities. He warns that such practice is undemocratic and should not be tolerated, emphasizing that Nasir El-rufai’s trial must be conducted within a transparent and fair legal process.

“What I am saying is that the law must not be used as an instrument of political malice. This continuous resort to legal technicalities to keep Malam Nasir El-Rufai in custody, while stylishly denying him bail under various guises, is an injustice that should not be tolerated. Justice must be transparent and fair, not served based on political considerations”, he stated
