EFCC Establishes New Directorate To Monitor State Government Funds, Tackle Corruption

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the establishment of a new directorate to monitor the inflow and expenditure of funds allocated to state governments as part of efforts to curb corruption and prevent the misuse of public resources.

The EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyode, disclosed this while delivering a special lecture during the celebration of Zamfara State’s 30th anniversary in Gusau.

According to him, the commission is adopting a more preventive approach to fighting financial crimes, rather than concentrating only on investigating and prosecuting individuals after public funds have been misappropriated.

Olukoyode explained that the newly established directorate would closely monitor state government finances to identify and prevent the diversion, embezzlement and misuse of public funds.

He further revealed that EFCC officials had been incorporated into meetings of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), where allocations to state governments are discussed and monitored.

He said the initiative was designed to strengthen transparency and accountability in the management and spending of public resources across the country.

The EFCC chairman made the announcement during a special lecture organised as part of activities marking Zamfara State’s 30 years of existence.

The anniversary event brought together stakeholders to examine the state’s achievements, challenges and development prospects over the past three decades.

Discussions during the lecture centred on accountability, security and sustainable development, with emphasis on the importance of responsible financial management in driving development.
