Drama as INEC Disowns APC Chairman Membership Figures Released
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected membership statistics attributed to political parties by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, clarifying that the figures did not originate from the commission.
Dayo Oketola, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, issued the clarification on Tuesday while responding to claims circulated after an ARISE News interview involving the APC chairman.
He said, “Dear esteemed media colleagues, please note that this is certainly not from INEC. Thanks,” in a message sent to journalists.
During the interview, Yilwatda had stated that the APC has 12.9 million verified registered members, while other parties reportedly have lower figures: the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2.4 million, African Democratic Congress (ADC) 1.6 million, Labour Party (LP) 1.3 million, and the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) 700,000.
