Court Reserves Judgment In Turaki-Led PDP Suit Seeking INEC Recognition Of Interim Leadership

The Federal High Court has reserved judgment in a suit by the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction seeking an order directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise its Interim National Working Committee, as constituted by its National Executive Committee (NEC).
The party disclosed this in a statement issued by its Interim National Working Committee through the National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong.
According to Ememobong, the matter came up for hearing earlier on Tuesday following a suit filed by the party’s Board of Trustees against INEC.
He stated that after counsel representing all parties adopted their respective court processes, the judge adjourned the case for judgment on a date yet to be communicated.
“The case instituted by the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party seeking an order directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise the Interim National Working Committee constituted by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Party came up for hearing before the court,” Ememobong stated.
“Following the adoption of their respective processes by counsel to all the parties, the matter was adjourned for judgment on a date to be communicated by the court.”
Meanwhile, the opposition party dismissed reports claiming that some of its candidates were planning to sue the party’s interim leadership headed by Turaki.
Describing the reports as false and misleading, the PDP insisted that none of its candidates had threatened legal action against the party.
“These rumours are entirely false and are nothing more than the product of mischief. There has not been a single complaint, let alone any threat of legal action, by any of our candidates,” Ememobong stated.
The party maintained that its candidates remained in regular communication with the leadership and were being updated on developments concerning the party.
It further urged journalists and media organisations to ignore what it described as false reports and rely only on official communications from the PDP.
The party also alleged that the rumours were being circulated by “ill-wishers and PDP pretenders, who are APC apologists,” with the intention of misleading the public and creating confusion.
