CAF Appoints Nigeria’s Samson Adamu As New General Secretary

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the appointment of Nigerian football administrator Samson Adamu as its new General Secretary.

Adamu, who has served in an acting capacity since March 2026, was confirmed for the position by the CAF Executive Committee (EXCO) following a recruitment process.

CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe, said the appointment followed a comprehensive selection exercise during which the position was widely advertised and several candidates were interviewed.

Adamu brings extensive experience in football administration, having joined CAF in 2018 as Director of Competitions before subsequently serving as Director of Tournaments and Events.

During his time with the continental football governing body, he played a leading role in organising and delivering several major competitions, including the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

He is also a graduate of the FIFA Master programme in International Management, Law and Humanities of Sport.

In his new position, Adamu will oversee CAF’s day-to-day administration and support the implementation of the organisation’s strategic priorities.

His appointment marks a significant step in his career within African football administration, having served in various capacities at CAF since joining the organisation eight years ago.
