Police Recover Stolen iPhone, Arrest 24-Year-Old Suspect Over Parish Burglary In Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has recovered a stolen iPhone 16 Plus and arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the burglary of a Catholic priest’s residence in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.

The suspect, identified as Chidubem Anyigo, was arrested on October 30, 2026, by operatives of the Okpoko Police Division working with members of the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) at Relief Market.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, saying the arrest followed intelligence linking the suspect to the burglary and theft at St. Hilary Parish House, Owelle-Aja, Awada, Obosi.

According to the police, the stolen property belonged to a Reverend Father at the parish house.

Items recovered from the suspect include an iPhone 16 Plus and ₦150,070 in cash.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly broke into the parish residence and stole the items.

Ikenga said the suspect made useful statements during interrogation to assist the ongoing investigation, while the victim had been contacted and positively identified the recovered property.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the police operatives and AVG members for their prompt response to intelligence and effective collaboration.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with community-based security organisations to combat crime, protect lives and property and maintain public safety across Anambra State.

The police said investigations into the incident were ongoing.
