BRICS Summit: South Africa’s Ramaphosa Cancels Engagements Over Ill Health

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has been booked off from public engagements after falling ill following his return from the BRICS Summit in India.

The Presidency said in a statement via social media that Ramaphosa returned to South Africa on Monday and had been advised by his medical team to rest and recover.

“The Presidency wishes to advise that, due to ill health, President Cyril Ramaphosa is currently booked off from public engagements,” the statement said.

It added that the President would, where possible, delegate scheduled engagements to members of his cabinet.

“Where possible, the President has asked the respective Ministers to represent him at scheduled public engagements,” the Presidency said.

The statement did not disclose the nature of Ramaphosa’s illness or how long he is expected to remain away from public engagements.
