Bomb Threat Grounds Aircraft At South African Airport, 184 Passengers Safely Evacuated

The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the threat was reported through a telephone call from an unidentified caller using a private number.

An aircraft has been held at King Phalo Airport in South Africa’s Eastern Cape province following a reported bomb threat, with all 184 passengers on board safely disembarking.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the threat was reported through a telephone call from an unidentified caller using a private number.
According to the police, the caller alleged that a bomb was on board the aircraft, prompting security agencies to activate emergency response measures.
The aircraft is currently being held while security personnel carry out standard security protocols.
SAPS said a multidisciplinary response team had been deployed to the scene, including officers from the Bomb Disposal Unit, K9 explosive detection teams, hostage negotiators, disaster management personnel, airport security officials and emergency medical services.
The authorities are managing the scene as investigations continue into the origin of the bomb threat.
“No further information is available at this stage,” the police said, urging members of the public to avoid speculation and allow security agencies to carry out their duties without interference.
The police added that further updates would be provided as the situation develops.
The statement did not disclose the identity of the caller, the airline operating the aircraft or the aircraft’s destination.
