Adelami, Popoola, Others Grace Adeyemi College of Technology Maiden Convocation

The Adeyemi College of Technology (ACT), Ondo has held its maiden convocation ceremony on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at the Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) campus in Ondo city, Ondo State.

In his remarks on the occasion, the Chairman, Governing Council, Adeyemi College of Technology (ACT), who also double as the Vice-Chancellor Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, described the ceremony as historic and landmark, stating that the occasion is ” much more than the conferment of certificate”, but can also be referred to as a period for celebration of knowledge, perseverance, discipline and service.

Underscoring the importance of acquisition of technological knowledge in contemporary society, the University Administrator, observed that since “the world is changing rapidly, and the future appears to belong to those who can adapt, innovate and continuously acquire new knowledge”, it is, therefore, incumbent on people to acquire skills, that would enable them earn a living in a rapidly changing world.

The renowned scholar congratulated the graduating students, and urged them to be conscious of their responsibilities to the society, saying “as graduates of a College of Technology, you must distinguish yourselves through practical skills, innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship”.

In addition, Prof. Popoola also admonished the graduating students, to make effective use of the certificate collected, by using the skills and experience acquired during the course of their study, to solve problems and create opportunities that would help in advancing Nigeria’s development.

Earlier in his address of welcome, the Acting Rector, Adeyemi College of Technology (ACT) Ondo, Dr. Kehinde Emmanuel Adenegan, commended the graduands, for what he described as their courage, resilience and sacrifice during the period of their studentship in the institution.

Describing ACT as a specialised institution established to provide practical skills and entrepreneurship training for Nigerian youths, the ACT Acting Rector reaffirmed the commitment of the institution’s Management to excellence, and the achievement of its vision and mission, saying “we are committed to producing graduates, who will not just look for jobs, but will create jobs”, he stated.

While advising the graduating students to remain good ambassadors of the institution, Adenegan equally urged them not to depend solely on the certificate collected, but to seek constantly for self-improvement, saying “certificate is not the end of learning, it is a licence to serve Nigeria’s needs”, he remarked.

In a convocation keynote address presented on the occasion by Dr. Foluso Bamidele Falaye, Managing Director, CBC Emea Group of Companies, he stressed the need for parents to priortise the education of their children, stating that the step would be beneficial to the family, community and the Nigeria nation at large.

Speaking on the topic, ” From Classroom to Industry : Harnessing Technology and Innovation to drive Nigeria’s Industrial Transformation”, the Canadian- based Computer Scientist, emphasised the importance of technology in society and its influence in global trends saying ” anyone desirous of joining the trend ,” should not hesitate to adapt to the changing situation “.

Lamenting what he observed as state of high level of graduate unemployment in Nigeria, the Computer Specialist, said for the situation to be ameliorated, both the citizens of the country and the government, must place more emphasis in the promotion of skills acquisition and its acceptance by youths in the country.

Dr. Falaye, however, advised parents to shun the habit of forcing their children to pursue their (Parents) preferred courses, rather than encouraging them to seek admission in technological-oriented institutions, from where they could acquire relevant skills, that would help them become self-reliance after the completion of their study, and contribute positively to Nigeria’s Industrial growth.

The Computer Specialist stressed the need for graduates of Nigeria’s tertiary institutions not to wait for white-collar jobs, but to engage in continuous learning, stating that the development, would create opportunities for them to navigate the world around them, and to acquire necessary skills, that would enable them fit into the industries.

His words: “We need innovative thinking and those that will use technology to navigate the world around them. I want to challenge every one of us, we need to start a new way of thinking to improve ourselves.

“Society today is waiting for emancipation, government must take the lead, if we don’t want to be a slave in our land”, he remarked.
The highpoint of the convocation ceremony was the conferment of award on the graduands, made up of 8 students who got National Diploma Award in Software Engineering, as well as, 2 others who also got similar award in Hardware Engineering.

Similarly, 56 other students who completed certificate courses in various disciplines were also conferred with awards. The courses include multi-media technology, hardware Engineering and Maintenance, data analytics, software development, as well as Artificial intelligence, machine learning, content creation, digital marketing, and data analysis.

The well attended ceremony held at the New Centre for Educational Technology building AFUED Ondo City, also featured presentation of prizes to best behaved graduating student, as well as best outstanding graduating students in Software Engineering, Artificial intelligence and Technology.

Eminent personalities present at the occasion included the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Dr. Olayide Owolabi Adelami, MNI ; Principal officers of AFUED : Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ireti Folasade Alao; representative of the University Registrar, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede, Mr. Oladele Balogun; Bursar, Mrs. Taiwo Adedoyin and Librarian, Dr. Azino Akpokuriere.

Also present were Principal officers of Adeyemi College of Technology (ACT) Ondo, several eminent traditional rulers from notable towns in Ondo State, Deans and Directors, heads of Directorates, Divisions and Units from both AFUED and ACT as well as religious leaders and other important personalities from different sections of society to mention but a few.
