Adekanmbi Gets Fresh Political Assignment as Tinubu Inaugurates APC Campaign Council

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has named the Managing Director of the Benin-Owena River Basin Development Authority (BORBDA), Dr. Femi Adekanmbi, as a member of the Security Directorate of its Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general election.

Adekanmbi, an Ondo State-born politician, was listed among officials assigned to the security structure of the council, with responsibilities reportedly covering the Southwest geopolitical zone.

The development followed the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, as the ruling party intensified preparations for the president’s re-election bid.

The security directorate is one of several operational structures established by the APC to coordinate activities during the presidential campaign, including security arrangements for political engagements, rallies and other campaign events.

Adekanmbi’s regional assignment is expected to involve security-related coordination across the six Southwest states of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti, working within the framework established by the campaign council.

His inclusion in the council represents another political responsibility for the former Ondo State Commissioner for Special Duties, who currently serves as Managing Director of BORBDA.

The council, chaired by President Tinubu, has Vice President Kashim Shettima as First Vice Chairman and APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, as Second Vice Chairman.

Former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, serves as Director-General, while Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, is Secretary.

Other prominent figures in the council include Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and several serving and former governors, lawmakers and party leaders.

The inauguration also attracted political figures outside the APC, including Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo; and Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

Speaking at the event, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, highlighted the party’s nationwide organisational structure and expressed confidence in its capacity to mobilise support for the president’s re-election.

The council is expected to oversee campaign planning, political mobilisation, strategic communications, logistics, security coordination and voter engagement across the country’s six geopolitical zones.

Earlier, the Director-General of the council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, disclosed that the party would formally commence its presidential campaign with a rally in Kaduna State on October 24, 2026.

Yari, who spoke after briefing President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, said the president had approved the proposed campaign programme, including planned visits to different parts of the country.

He also identified Port Harcourt in Rivers State and Maiduguri in Borno State among the destinations for subsequent campaign engagements.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, following the revision of its electoral timetable in accordance with the Electoral Act 2026.
