Abuja Court Jails Driver Three Weeks For Dangerous Driving, Assaulting FRSC Marshal
According to the FRSC, Halilu was arrested on Monday, September 14, 2026, at about 11am during a mobile court operation at the Life Camp Unit Command in Abuja.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS7.1 FCT Sector Command, has secured the conviction and sentencing of a motorist, Abubakar Halilu, for multiple road traffic offences in Abuja.
Halilu was arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court, Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, on charges including dangerous driving, driver’s licence violation, overloading, assault on a marshal on duty, seatbelt violation and resisting arrest.
According to the FRSC, Halilu was arrested on Monday, September 14, 2026, at about 11am during a mobile court operation at the Life Camp Unit Command in Abuja.
The Sector Command said Halilu, who was driving a Mitsubishi vehicle, was apprehended after allegedly committing the offences and subsequently assaulted an FRSC marshal while resisting arrest.
The matter was subsequently brought before the court for prosecution.
Delivering judgment, Magistrate Theresa of the Chief Magistrate Court, Wuse Zone 6, convicted Halilu and sentenced him to three weeks’ imprisonment at the Suleja Correctional Centre, with an option of a ₦30,000 fine.
Reacting to the judgment, the FRSC described the development as an affirmation of the rule of law and the importance of respecting lawful traffic enforcement procedures.
“The Corps reiterates that its personnel are mandated to enforce road safety regulations in the interest of protecting lives and property, and will not tolerate acts of violence, obstruction or resistance against Marshals carrying out their lawful duties,” the FRSC said.
The Corps urged motorists and other road users to comply with traffic regulations, cooperate with enforcement personnel and desist from conduct capable of endangering other road users or obstructing lawful enforcement operations.
The FRSC said it remained committed to promoting safer roads through sustained public education, compliance monitoring and lawful enforcement.
