JUST IN: Reactions Trail Peter Obi’s Visit To Germany And UK Hours After Visiting Benue And Plateau States
Reactions have continued to trail a statement by the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, detailing his movements and engagements in Europe shortly after his visits to Benue and Plateau states.
Obi said that after returning to Abuja on September 8, 2026, following his visits to the two states, he travelled to Europe, first visiting Germany and later the United Kingdom.
The former Anambra State governor disclosed this in a statement in which he said the purpose of the European trip was to participate in high-level meetings focused on issues affecting Nigeria’s future.
According to Obi, the discussions centred on democracy and electoral integrity, poverty, education, corruption and healthcare, as well as practical measures to improve the living conditions and dignity of Nigerians.
He said he was particularly encouraged by the willingness of Nigeria’s international partners to support the country, especially in the area of education.
Obi reiterated his position that education remains one of the most important investments Nigeria can make, arguing that no country can achieve a prosperous and sustainable future without developing the knowledge, skills and capabilities of its citizens.
He also called for a deliberate transition from consumption to production, dependence to productivity, wasteful practices to responsible resource management, and division to a shared national purpose.
The NDC candidate said his vision was to build a Nigeria where every child has access to quality education, democracy reflects the will of the people, healthcare is accessible, public resources are responsibly managed and citizens have equal opportunities to live dignified and productive lives.
His account of travelling first to Germany and subsequently to the United Kingdom after returning from Benue and Plateau has, however, generated reactions on social media, with users commenting on his movements and the timing of the trip.
Obi concluded his statement by restating his optimism about the country, saying: “A New Nigeria Is POssible.”
