Tinubu Is Better Than Donald Trump in Good Governance — Joe Igbokwe
All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Joe Igbokwe, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is better than United States President Donald Trump when it comes to good governance.
Igbokwe’s statement has generated discussion, particularly given the contrasting political and economic environments in Nigeria and the United States.
The APC chieftain has consistently defended Tinubu and his administration, highlighting the president’s experience and describing his policies as necessary for Nigeria’s long-term development.
Igbokwe previously argued that Tinubu had the capacity and experience required to lead Nigeria, saying age should not be the determining factor when assessing a political leader.
Tinubu’s reforms
Since assuming office in May 2023, Tinubu has implemented several major economic reforms, including the removal of the petrol subsidy and changes to the foreign-exchange system.
The administration has argued that the reforms were necessary to stabilise public finances, attract investment and improve government revenue.
In his June 2026 Democracy Day address, Tinubu said the reforms had helped restore stability to Nigeria’s economic management, while acknowledging that many Nigerians were still facing economic hardship.
The president also highlighted increased federation revenues, improved fiscal transparency, infrastructure investments and efforts to expand domestic refining capacity.
Igbokwe’s position
Igbokwe has remained a strong supporter of Tinubu and has repeatedly defended the president against criticism from opposition figures.
His latest comparison with Trump is likely to fuel further debate over the performance of both leaders and the meaning of good governance.
While Igbokwe’s statement represents his assessment, whether Tinubu is “better” than Trump ultimately depends on the criteria used to measure governance, including economic performance, public services, security, accountability and citizens’ welfare.
