Lagos governor’s aide tackles Solomon Buchi over remarks about Lagos

The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Lagos State Governor, Gboyega Akosile, has criticised social commentator Solomon Buchi over his recent remarks advising foreigners not to limit their visits to Lagos if they want to experience Nigeria’s culture and heritage.

Buchi made the comments on Thursday, September 3, in a video shared on social media, where he encouraged foreign tourists, particularly Caucasians and Chinese visitors, to explore other parts of Nigeria instead of focusing solely on Lagos.

According to him, Lagos does not adequately represent the country’s heritage, arguing that cities such as Ibadan, Uyo and Abuja offer visitors a broader experience of Nigeria.

Buchi said:

“The only thing you can get out of Lagos is begging, clubbing, fake life, and a den of adulterers and fornicators. There is nothing there apart from all the loudness and madness.”

His comments drew a strong response from Akosile, who accused the social commentator of displaying bitterness towards Lagos.

Reacting in a post on X, Akosile wrote:

“I wonder what you guys smoke before you seta up your ring lights and cameras, that makes you vomit diatribes.”

The exchange has generated reactions online, with social media users weighing in on the contrasting views about Lagos, its culture and whether the state adequately represents Nigeria to international visitors.

While Buchi urged tourists to explore other parts of the country, Akosile’s response defended Lagos and criticised what he described as Buchi’s negative portrayal of the state.
