Nigeria Is a Great Nation, Nigerians Are Greater – Banji Alabi
Let’s Stop Reducing Nigeria to Her Challenges , instead Celebrate Her Greatness
Nigerian lawyer and public commentator, Banji Alabi Esq, has called for a more balanced and truthful representation of Nigeria, urging Nigerians and the international community not to define the country solely by its challenges.
In a strongly worded press statement released to our heritage Reporter online Thursday morning titled “Nigeria Is a Great Nation And Her People Are Greater,” Alabi argued that while Nigeria faces genuine socio-economic and developmental challenges, the achievements, resilience and contributions of millions of Nigerians who continue to build the nation must also be recognised.
He maintained that Nigeria’s story should not be reduced to negative narratives, stressing that the country is equally home to innovators, entrepreneurs, professionals, public servants, farmers, manufacturers and creatives whose contributions are making a difference locally and globally.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
What is truth?
Is truth a selective story that magnifies only the bad, while sweeping the good under the carpet?
Is truth equal to facts that are manipulated to serve an agenda?
We must lay the proper foundation before we answer.
The foundation of any nation is her people.
And the foundation of Nigeria is strong.
Nigeria is home to millions of hardworking, ethical, and extremely successful people who are building this country the right way.
In technology, finance, health, education, agriculture, manufacturing, entertainment, and public service
Nigerians are leading, creating jobs, exporting excellence, and lifting communities.
These builders do not make headlines every day, but they are the reason our nation stands.
To reduce Nigeria to only her challenges is to tell a half-truth. And a half-truth, when weaponized, becomes a lie.
Yes, like every nation on earth, we have challenges. Scripture itself reminds us: “For the poor you will always have with you.”_
For context: the rate of homelessness in the whole of the US for the year 2024 was 771, 480 peapole
sleep on the streets every night. This is publicly verifiable.
Yet America is not defined in global media by that alone.
America is also defined by her innovation, her resilience, and the greatness of her people.
That is the standard every nation deserves — balance.
Therefore, our position is clear:
1. We reject narratives designed to diminish Nigeria.
2. We demand balanced reporting that also tells the story of our wins, our builders, and our breakthroughs.
3. We celebrate the Nigerian spirit: hardworking, resilient, creative, and world-class.
Nigeria is not what the cynics claim.
Nigeria is a GREAT nation.
And Nigerians are GREATER._
We will continue to tell our story. The full story.
A story of struggle, yes — but more importantly, a story of strength, success, and destiny.
